2010-themed art-making workshop faciliated by Lawrence Lemoana and Mary Sibande | 26 June 2010

As a company, Telkom appreciates the power of art to reach out across language, race and cultural barriers. Art is not made to be admired from a distance. On the contrary, it should be seen, shared and created in a way that enhances human dignity, breaks down barriers, taps into hidden talent and promotes proudly South African heritage.

To further extend our involvement in sport and the arts, we offered a 2010-themed art-making workshop to employee and their children. The first workshop for employees was held on Saturday, 26 June where employees and their children learnt to make their own 2010-themed paintings. The artists Mary Sibande and Lawrence Lemoane shared their knowledge of painting – mixing colours, surface textures, brushstrokes and composition. The workshop stimulated employees’ creativity.

Each employee was requested to bring images relating to what the World Cup means to them. These images were used as inspiration for the paintings that the employees made and took home.

Telkom supports the arts that in SA, and holds an impressive corporate art collection that promotes local artists.
