One of the focus areas in managing the Telkom Art Collection has always been to promote South African art by partnering or supporting role-players in the arts arena, including individual artists, academics, community-based art organizations and industry bodies.
An opportunity to collaborate with the University of Pretoria Visual Arts department to work with the 2nd and 3rd years students presented itself last year. The student’s curriculum in Professional Practice requires 2ndand 3rdyear students to create an artwork with the theme: “Celebrating telecommunication”.
Telkom provided the canvases for the artworks. Telkom also agreed to exhibit selected artworks in the new Telkom Art Space at Head Office in Pretoria. The exhibition opened on 18 August 2012 to 23 November 2012.
