Van Wyk completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Stellenbosch (2003), and graduated cum laude with a Masters in Fine Art from the University of Johannesburg (2015). She also holds qualifications in furniture making, specialising in wood machining and cabinet making. The spear-heading of different community engagement workshops and ar6sts talks between 2007 and 2013 significantly influenced her artistic practice. Her recent solo exhibition, Future Mythology, was held at Everard Read Cape Town from 11 May to 1 June 2022.
She has participated in group shows around South Africa, including at NIROX Sculpture Park, and has been awarded residencies both locally and interna6onally. She recently gave a talk in the USA for the Curator’s Talk event for the Collide group exhibition at Featherstone Center for the Arts in Martha’s Vineyard. This year, Sophia participated in the International Public Arts Festival in Cape Town. She has a solo exhibition and residency at Nirox Sculpture Park in Johannesburg in November.
